System in Chaos... Nova Scotia needs mental health strategy |

Mental health advocates from various fields met in Province House yesterday to warn the system is in a state of chaos.
They say mentally ill people are slipping through the cracks because outreach staff are too overburdened to keep up. However, they said the first and most urgent step is cheap and easy to fix.

Advocates call for strategy to deal with mental health system in Nova Scotia
HALIFAX ‐ Mental health advocates in Nova Scotia say the province must do something to address a system in crisis.
Representatives from several groups held a news conference Wednesday to push the provincial government to draft a comprehensive mental health strategy.

The Nova Scotia Hospital in Dartmouth is reviewing its policy for giving mental health patients passes to leave the hospital and spend time in the community.
The review comes after two patients committed suicide while on temporary leave from the province's largest psychiatric health facility.
